Did you know that you don’t need to wait for your ‘gender ultrasound’ to learn whether your unborn baby is a boy or a girl? Sounds incredible, doesn’t it? Well, it totally is!
Guessing whether the littlest member in the house will be a girl or a boy is one conversation that you’d have heard a million times during the first few months of pregnancy. Trust us, the excitement of guessing soon wears off. But the good news is that you don’t even need to wait for your sex-determination test, scheduled at the 20th week of pregnancy, to learn about your baby’s sex.
Whatever the preferences are, learning whether you will be mom to a girl or a boy is something you are curious about, often too curious.
Typically, an average pregnant woman in the US undergoes one ultrasound at the first semester’s end (weeks 6-13), and another towards the end of the second (weeks 15-22). The test scheduled during the 18-22 weeks of pregnancy is the sex determination session or gender ultrasound.
But, if science were to be believed, you could possibly learn of your baby’s gender much before the gender ultrasound. Incredibly, a recent study claims that you can predict your little one’s sex during the first ultrasound with a mind-blowing 97 percent accuracy!
How does it work, is probably what you’re thinking right now. Well, here’s how:
According to the study, the placenta’s location inside the womb is the only accurate measure of whether your baby-to-be is a boy or a girl. The study was conducted at the time of the first ultrasound (6-13 weeks), and the results stated that for 9 out of 10 boys, the placenta almost always rested on the uterus’ right side. The same study also observed that around 9 out of 10 girl placentas resided on the left side of the uterus.
The same researchers claim that the method is a “highly reliable” and “remarkably accurate” way of determining your baby’s sex well before the gender ultrasound. Who’d have thought that determining sex of an unborn child would be so easy.
Note:
The tests are 97.5% accurate for girls, and 97.8% for boys. Of course, in the case of boys, it does become rather obvious on later visits. So, don’t kick up a fuss if you’re doctor cannot determine the sex of your baby. Buy some neutral colors like yellows and greens and get ready to welcome the new member of your family.
In India, sex-determination is a criminal offense punishable by law. You simply can’t determine the sex of an unborn baby, not without facing a prison term along with the doctor who performed the procedure.
